Vietnam makes every effort to nurture relations with Laos

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s best efforts to cultivate relations with Laos at a reception in Hanoi on July 18 for Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Sengnuon Sayalat.

At the reception, PM Phuc said the two countries should enhance economic connectivity, especially in transport and energy, improve education and training cooperation quality and raise public awareness of the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity, especially among young generations.

He underlined the importance of maintaining regular high-level exchange visits to step up bilateral ties and showed his delight at the close and effective ties between the two law-making bodies especially in performing law-making and supervisory roles, as well as external relations at regional and global parliamentary forums. 

He said he hopes that the two legislative bodies will back each other’s changes in mechanisms, policies, and laws to continue boosting political, diplomatic, national defence, and security ties. 

The government leader also stressed the need to effectively realize agreements between the two Parties and States, improve the efficiency of trade and investment cooperation, facilitate Vietnam’s projects in Laos, and ensure the ongoing progress and quality of projects. 

Highlighting the new Lao NA House as a particularly important project, PM Phuc said Vietnam has adopted special mechanisms and accelerated its construction. He believed that with combined efforts, the project will be completed on schedule, becoming a symbol of bilateral ties. 

He thanked the Party, State, Government, and NA of Vietnam for building the Lao NA House as a gift. 

The Lao NA Vice Chairman said his visit’s aim is to foster ties between the two Parties, States, and legislatures and learn Vietnam’s experience in coordinating with parliaments across the globe. 

The Vietnamese NA, and provincial and municipal People’s have offered practical support to Laos in a multitude of fields over the past years, he said while stating that despite changes in the world situation, the Lao Party, State, and people will always stand side by side with their Vietnamese counterparts, and wished that next generations would continue to nurture these close ties between the two nations.
