PM Phuc also affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthen cooperation with other countries and international organizations in their joint battle against the deadly disease.

He informed his counterpart of the positive results that Vietnam has achieved in the fight, stressing priority is given to protecting the safety of Vietnamese people as well as foreign citizens living and working in the country.

He proposed Sweden provide necessary medical assistance for Vietnamese nationals living and working in their host country.

For his part, PM Stefan Löfven lauded Vietnam’s initial success in the fight and  thanked the country for its timely support for Swedish citizens infected with the virus. He expressed hope the two countries increase experience sharing and cooperation bilaterally and multilaterally in dealing with this prolonged battle.

Prime Minister Phuc noted Sweden is an important and reliable partner of Vietnam in the European Union (EU). He thanked the Government and people of Sweden for their heartfelt support and valuable assistance to the Vietnamese people in the past and at present, including official development assistance (ODA), helping Vietnam spur its socio-economic development. He expressed desire to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in all areas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Löfven proposed the two countries bring into full play the potential of bilateral cooperation in such areas as sustainable development, innovation, trade and investment, as well as in implementing the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) once they come into effect.

The two PM highly valued the results of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's official visit to Sweden in May 2019 marking 50 years of diplomacy between the two countries. They agreed to strengthen the Vietnam-Sweden existing cooperation mechanisms, raise the level of bilateral cooperation to meet two countries’ current development needs, and at the same time work closely with each other at regional and international forums, particularly when Vietnam is assuming the role of the ASEAN 2020 Chairmanship and the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc again extended an invitation to the Swedish Prime Minister to visit Vietnam. Prime Minister Löfven said he will arrange time for the visit to take place at an earliest possible time.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc extended his greetings to King Carl XVI Gustav, Princess Victoria and the Royal Court of Sweden.
