Vietnam ready to support Lao in successfully organizing CLV Parliamentary Summit

The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) is ready to support and share experience with the Lao National Assembly in successfully organizing the Cambodia - Laos – Vietnam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit in Vientiane capital in early December 2023.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue made the statement at a reception in Hanoi on October 5 for Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang, who came to bid adieu before finishing his term in Vietnam.

The top Vietnamese legislator congratulated Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang on successfully completing his working term in Vietnam, adding that the Ambassador and the Lao Embassy in Vietnam have strived to well play its role as a bridge making many important contributions to the development of relations between the two countries and the two legislators.

The Vietnamese NA supports its Lao counterpart in successfully assuming the role of President of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2024 and organize the AIPA-45 General Assembly slated for October 2024, Hue told his guest.

Hue praised the Lao diplomat's contributions to promoting the relationship between the two law-making bodies in an extensive, practical and effective manner, especially activities commemorating the Vietnam - Laos and Laos - Vietnam Years of Solidarity and Friendship during 2022.

The two legislatures regularly maintain the exchange of high-level delegations at all levels, exchange experience in institutional building and socio-economic development to ensure national defence and security.

During meetings, both nations’ top legislators held detailed discussions in order to jointly resolve a number of problems and issues related to cooperation projects between the two countries.

The two law-making bodies have closely coordinated and offered mutual support at regional and international inter-Parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

In response, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang expressed his joy that Vietnam has enjoyed rapid economic and social development, while maintaining security and defence associated with boosting economic development and improving people's lives. Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest economic growth in the world, he added.

The Ambassador assessed that Vietnam's position and role in the international arena is increasingly enhanced, with the nation’s foreign direct investment attraction ranking first among ASEAN member states and, recognized Vietnam's success in this role of 37th ASEAN Chairmanship in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam successfully fulfilled its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020 - 2021 term.

Participating in UN peacekeeping operations in very difficult areas has affirmed that Vietnam is a responsible member of the international community.

The Ambassador said that the achievements that Vietnam has recorded recently have contributed to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, creating many advantages for national  development.

He expressed his confidence that Vietnam will continue to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, especially the goal that by 2045 which marks the 100th anniversary of the country's founding. Vietnam will become a developed, high-income country, he continued.

On this occasion, through Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent greetings and wishes of health to General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane and other Party and State leaders of Laos.
