Vietnam shares experience in implementing South – South cooperation projects

PSNews – Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son pointed out three lessons learnt by Vietnam from the South – South cooperation projects during the second High-Level United Nations Conference on South – South Cooperation.

Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on March 20 delivered a key note speech at the second High-Level United Nations Conference on the South – South Cooperation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in which he stressed that Vietnam always supports and highly values the South – South cooperation.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that the country is always active in promoting development cooperation with developing countries on the basis of bilateral platforms, as well as Greater Mekong Sub-regional, ASEAN and other regional frameworks.

Mr. Bui Thanh Son pointed out that Vietnam has already launched over 10 trilateral projects, including the deployment of 300 experts to African countries to transfer technology, offer training and to support local agricultural development, contributing positively to hunger elimination, poverty reduction and food security in Africa.

Deputy Bui Thanh Son, the Vietnamese head delegate to the conference, shared three lessons having been learnt from the South – South cooperation projects: harmonizing Vietnam's capabilities and the needs of other developing countries; bringing practical outcomes to locals; and effectively combining development partners’ financial assistance with Vietnam’s experience and techniques in trilateral projects.

Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam has been sharing its experience in conducting renovation and promoting international integration with other developing countries, especially its experience in accelerating economic reforms in association with proactive international integration. He emphasized that Vietnam always places people in the center of development, and attaches economic growth to environmental protection, cultural development, social equality, poverty reduction, education and health care.

Deputy Minister Son suggested that the South – South cooperation mechanism should cement its unity, and raise the voice and interests of developing countries at international forums addressing global issues, while promoting multilateral cooperation and supporting countries in fulfilling UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Mr. Son also asked the UN and international development organizations to continue supporting the South – South cooperation mechanism for peace and common prosperity in the world.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son also delivered opening remarks at the “Dialogue with Asian countries” hosted by the Argentine Foreign Minister. He also met will heads of the delegations of Norway, Armenia, Iceland, Maldives and Ghana, and the Director General of the UN Development Program.

The Vietnamese delegation also participated actively in the dialogue “Shaping the Future of Regional South-South Cooperation: Sharing the ASEAN Experiences and Nurturing Synergies across Regions”.
