Vietnam values developing cooperative ties with Grenada

 Newly accredited Ambassador Le Viet Duyen has affirmed Vietnam recognition of great importance to developing cooperation ties with Grenada at a recent ceremony to present the Credentials of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the Governor-General of Grenada, Cecile La Grenade.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Duyen respectfully conveyed the greetings and a message of friendship and co-operation from President Phuc to Governor General La Grenade, as well as to the Government and people of Grenada.

The Vietnamese diplomat expressed his belief that the credential presentation ceremony would serve to create a foundation for the two sides to strengthen bilateral relations in a range of fields, especially in trade, investment, culture, tourism, and agriculture. He pledged to make every effort to take relations between the two countries to new heights.

In response, Governor General La Grenade congratulated Ambassador Duyen on his appointment as Vietnamese Ambassador to Grenada and highly appreciated the development orientation, as well as the socio-economic successes, that Vietnam has recorded over recent years.

The Governor General expressed her wish to further strengthen the ties of friendly relations with Vietnam and exploit to the fullest the potential of co-operation between the two sides in terms of economics, trade, investment, education, vocational training, agriculture, and climate change adaptation.

Also as part of the occasion, Ambassador Duyen held a meeting with Prime Minister of Grenada Keith Mitchell at the Government Office of Grenada, during which the two sides compared notes on the political, socio-economic situation of each country in the recent past.

PM Mitchell expressed how impressed he has been with Vietnamese development speed and its achievements, stating his hope that the two sides will soon launch a wide range of activities aimed at propelling bilateral co-operation forward.

According to Ambassador Duyen, both countries have many favourable conditions to bolster co-operation and become important partners of each other.

He also affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy will actively co-ordinate with ministries and sectors of the two sides to find potential areas of co-operation and constantly introduce markets, as well as connecting businesses in the future.
This comes after Ambassador Duyen paid a courtesy visit to Grenada Foreign Minister Oliver Joseph, With the Grenada FM noting that Grenada and Vietnam boast potential to augment co-operation across a variety of fields.

He went on to underscore the importance of promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides as a mean of deepening mutual understanding, thereby laying the foundation for co-operation opportunities moving forward.

Moreover, Ambassador Duyen also had an exchange with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Grenada Roxie-Mc Leish Hutchinson, during which both sides discussed the global and regional situation, as well as the possibility of co-operation in areas of shared concern such as climate change and co-operation in multilateral forums.

Grenada is an island nation situated in the Caribbean with an area of 340 square kilometres and a population of approximately 111,500 people, making it one of the least populous countries in the world, but with a high population density. Grenada's per capita income stood at around US$9,000 in 2021.

Vietnam and Grenada established diplomatic relations on July 15, 1979.
