Vietnam’s fulfillment of its term as a non-permanent member of UNSC praised

The nation has accomplished all of the goals set out in the 2020 to 2021 term with the co-operation of colleagues from other member states of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy made the statement during an event held to mark the end of the term of five non-permanent members of the UNSC for the 2020 to 2021 period, with the event being held at the UN headquarters in New York in the United States on December 31.

These five non-permanent members are Estonia, Niger, Saint Vincents & the Grenadines, Tunisia, and Vietnam.

Vietnamese participation in the UNSC was based on its objectivity, transparency, and unity, as well as the legitimate interests of relevant parties, Ambassador Quy said.The Vietnamese diplomat affirmed that in order to fulfill its pledge to promote compliance with the UN Charter and multilateralism, the country has always upheld these contents in all of the UNSC’s activities. The nation has consistently make every effort to push for a a people-centred approach in seeking sustainable and reasonable solutions aimed at settling disputes via peaceful measures and to address global concerns, as well as promoting humanitarian policies for vulnerable groups.The highlight of these efforts can be viewed as the country suggesting that the UNSC approve the UNSC President's Statement on "Upholding the UN Charter in the maintenance of international peace and security", the Resolution on "Protecting the essential infrastructure to people's lives", and many other documents and activities, he assessed.Ambassador Quy used the platform to thank the valuable trust and support of UN member countries, as well as the effective co-operation and co-ordination from members of the UNSC in the 2020 to 2021 term. He also extended his best wishes to the five countries that will take up the position of non-permanent members of the UNSC, thereby expressing his confidence that these nations will contribute and further promote the council's affairs.

Participants at the event also briefed the UNSC on their achievements and contributions over the past two years, whilst expressing their gratitude for the support and the co-ordination of the UN member states and the UNSC.
