Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Round 3 awarded medals by UN

63 Vietnamese peacekeepers from Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Round 3 were awarded the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Medal for their dedications and outstanding contributions to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan at a ceremony held on March 15 in Bentiu, Republic of South Sudan.

The event saw the presence of Brigadier General Dhananjay Joshi, - Acting Commander-in-Chief of the UN Forces in South Sudan, Chief of the UN Base in Bentiu Hiroko Hirahara, Brigadier General Mike Cooper Mujuni, Commander of the Unity Military Region, Colonel Waleed Elazizy, Chief of the Military Medicine of the Mission UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan and Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tan Phong- Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in South Sudan along many commanding officers from garrisoned units: MonBatt, Pakistan METF, GhaBatt, Ghana FPU, Cambodia MP and guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Trinh My Hoa, Director of Field hospital 2.3 summarized the results achieved by the hospital after 12 months of its operation, starting from March 26, 2021, at the Bentiu-Unity Division.

During the time, the hospital provided high-quality healthcare services for more than 1,400 UN staff and local people. Its doctors and nurses successfully conducted more than 16 complex surgeries, and transported 15 serious patients by air to higher-level hospitals.

The hospital’s medical staff actively applied new techniques to examination and treatment of patients in accordance with practical situations.

The hospital also conducted COVID-19 tests and vaccinations for UN staff, provided oxygen and treated all medical waste from level 1 hospitals in the area.

Additionally, they carried out a series of environmentally friendly campaigns, shared professional expertise and experience with other units.

Meanwhile, its staff built a beautiful image of the country and the people of Vietnam through a series of 9 civilian-military combined operations (CIMIC) launched by Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief of the Bentiu Base Hiroko Hirahara and Brigadier General Dhananjay Joshi- Acting Commander of the UN forces in South Sudan highly appreciated the dedications, contributions and professionalism of Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital.

In his speech, Brigadier General Dhananjay Joshi thanked all staff of the Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital for their effective participation in CIMIC operations, including giving HIV/AIDS counseling to locals, offering technical support to Bentiu hospital, providing medicines and medical equipment for local authorities, and presenting useful equipment and school supplies to local students.

Under the scorching sun of the red dusty land of Bentiu, the 63 Vietnamese officers, doctors, nurses and workers in peacekeeping uniforms of white gloves and blue berets proudly received noble medal from the UN in recognition of their dedications and contributions to the UN forces and local people during their working term in South Sudan.

On the medal, the blue is the icon of the United Nations, the black and green represent the country of South Sudan and the white symbolizes the aspirations for peace and prosperity.
