APEC 2017's security and healthcare works summed up

PSNews – The APEC 2017 Subcommittee for Security and Healthcare on November 23 held a ceremony to review the work of security protection and health care during the APEC Viet Nam 2017.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security; Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of the APEC 2017 Subcommittee for Security and Healthcare; Standing Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the APEC 2017 National Secretariat.

At the event, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam briefed the delegates on the work of security protection and health care during the APEC 2017.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam, after its establishment, the security and health subcommittee set a number of key tasks to ensure absolute safety and security of the APEC Viet Nam 2017 and assigned related ministries and 10 localities to acknowledge specific jobs in ensuring security and providing healthcare services during the APEC Year 2017.

The subcommittee also opened a number of training courses and held exchanges of experience in security, order and healthcare for members of the subcommittee, APEC 2017 National Secretariat and liaison volunteers, services workers and drivers.

A number of training courses on fire and explosion prevention were also held for thousands of officials and workers of local agencies,  hotels and restaurants hosting events and activities of the APEC Viet Nam 2017 in the 10 cities and provinces across the country. The Ministry of Health organized trainings for participating medical workers to improve their professional expertise and update the disease handling procedures.

Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam emphasized that the summarization of the whole work of ensuring security and safety for major events could help the agencies and units learn valuable lessons and experiences.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam, under the direct and comprehensive leadership of the Party and State leaders, and the APEC 2017's National Committee, the Ministry of Public Security, in close and efficient coordination with the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Health, local authorities of the 10 cities and provinces and other forces, played the core role in ensuring security and providing health services for the whole APEC Year.

The first important lesson is that all participating forces should thoroughly study and grasp the situation from distance and before events and activities while mobilizing comprehensively efforts and assets to take drastic and serious measures to absolutely ensure security and provide sufficient health services for the APEC Year without disadvantages or weaknesses.

Next, the organization of the APEC Summit Week also showed that in order to ensure the security and absolute safety for major events, the participating forces should pay special attention to preparing alternative plans to be ready for any eventualities. As a result, the subcommittee instructed the involved forces to develop not only the main plan, but also alternative plans and emergency exits in case of security and order incidents. Therefore, all situations occurred were handled in time.

Regarding international security cooperation, the subcommittee actively exchanged information with the security forces of participating APEC member economies so as to closely grasp the situation and take preventive measures.

Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam concluded that the APEC  2017 Subcommittee for Security and Healthcare successfully fulfilled the mission, ensuring absolute security and safety for the APEC 2017 events and activities without any minor mistakes, as directed by leaders of the Party and State.

As the head of the APEC 2017 National Secretariat, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the APEC Year 2017 was highly appreciated by international friends, economic leaders and delegates. They were all impressed by the organizing work, particularly security, healthcare and communications.

Referring daily-life activities of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in streets of Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang city during the APEC Summit Week, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that such images were evidence clear demonstration of the success of Vietnam in the work of protecting security.

According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, many countries would like to send their functional forces to learn about Vietnam’s organization of major events and security work.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister To Lam again stressed that the APEC Year 2017, , with its focus on the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang city, officially ended in great success.

Minister To Lam affirmed that the work of ensuring security and safety of the APEC Year 2017 events and activities has brought great significance to the country, particularly when Vietnam is promoting its deep integration in the world, and left a deep impression of a dynamic and friendly Vietnam on participating economic leaders, delegates, top CEOs.

This success has resulted from the will, wisdom, experience, sense of responsibility and the unity of the entire Party, the people, branches at all levels and armed forces, said Minister To Lam, it has also demonstrated the comprehensive strength and close coordination of all participating forces under the Party and State's direction.
