Deputy PM urges involved ministries to finish compensating victims of Formosa incident

PSNews - The Government Office has announced the conclusion of the Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh at the 9th meeting of the Steering Committee on solutions to stabilize life and production for people in the four central provinces affected by the Formosa incident

According to the announcement, lives of people in the four provinces have mainly returned to normal and the marine environment has been cleaned up as reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Local tourism has been enjoying fast growth while local production and business activities have been stable and effective and security and social order have been well maintained.

Regarding the compensation process, the Deputy PM asked the chairmen of the People's Committees of the four provinces to be active in resolving difficulties and soon completing the payment of compensation as financial supports for the victims of the environmental incident in line with Decision 1880 and Decision 309 of the Prime Minister.

On the subject of additional seafood inventory out of the initially reported amount of 5,369 tons, the Deputy PM assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to set up working missions consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to check and verify the real amount of seafood inventory in the provinces with their later reported amounts higher than the initially reported ones.

On the basis of the reports to be made by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the reports from the four provinces on seafood inventory, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry and Trade to review the situation and propose the Prime Minister for a compensation plan for the additional seafood inventory. After the PM decides on the additional compensation plan, the Ministry of Finance shall allocate the funds to the People's Committees of the four provinces to complete the compensation for local people’s losses by the end of September.

Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh also asked the Ministry of Health to continue collecting and testing seafood samples from the seafloor of four provinces.

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh also asked involved ministries and branches to soon report the Prime Minister on projects to monitor and observe the maritime environment as well as to restore the maritime ecosystem.
