Japan's Emperor and Empress to visit Vietnam

PSNews - Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will pay a State-level visit to Vietnam for the first time, starting from February 28th, at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse.

The visit of Japan's Emperor and Empress, following the Vietnam visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in early 2017, will remark an important milestone in the bilateral relationship, a display of international goodwill, and also the first trip of the Emperor and Empress to Vietnam since coming to the throne. Emperor Akihito especially looks forward to the visit to Vietnam.

Japan's Emperor and Empress are expected to hold meetings with high-level leaders of Vietnam within the framework of the visit.

As the visit features bilateral friendship, all Emperor and Empress's activities in the country will not involve any meetings or discussions related to politics, or economics but will focus on cultural exchanges, friendly talks and sightseeing in the two big Vietnamese cities of Hanoi and Hue.

Besides the meetings with Vietnamese leaders, Japan's Emperor and Empress will join talks with Japanese volunteers and citizens who are living, studying and working in Vietnam.

Especially, Japan's Emperor and Empress will observe Royal Music performances in Hue Citadel, and visit the Phan Boi Chau Memorial house. Such cultural activities will not only uphold the spirit of friendly exchanges but also serve as a good chance to introduce the image of Vietnam’s people and culture to the Japanese Imperial Family.

On the way returning home, the Emperor and Empress are planned to stop in Thailand to pay their respect to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away in October last year.
