MPS delegation attends 88th Interpol General Assembly in Chile

PSNews - Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, leading a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is attending the 88th Interpol General Assembly in Santiago de Chile, Chile from October 15 to 18 with the participation of some 900 delegates from 162 member countries and Interpol’s partners and observers.

At a meeting of the general assembly, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh delivered a keynote speech on activities of the ASEANAPOL and outcomes of the 39th ASEANAPOL conference hosted by Vietnam last month. On behalf of the INTERPOL Secretary-General, General Thanh also briefed delegates on the outcomes of the 3rd INTERPOL Dialogue on an effective multilateral policing architecture against global threats.

Deputy Minister Thanh highlighted that the Vietnamese police forces have faced various difficulties in fighting crimes, particularly hi-tech crimes. He also asked law enforcement forces of member countries to promote cooperation and information sharing, and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to enhance ties and cooperation with other countries and territories, international organizations on the basis of international laws and conventions.

Deputy Minister Thanh also asked other member countries of the INTERPOL to support Vietnam in ensuring security and safety for important international events hosted by Vietnam in the time to come, especially when Vietnam becomes a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and ASEAN Chair in 2020.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh on the same day shared with reporters about the relations between the Vietnamese police and police forces of other countries.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh also had a bilateral meeting with newly-appointed Commander of the Australian Federal Police, Reece Kershaw.

The MPS delegation of Vietnam paid a call on Ms. Angela Jeria, a close friend of Vietnam, Honorary President of the Chile-Vietnam Cultural Institute and mother of former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet. The delegation also visited  Vietnam Embassy in Chile.
