State President asks to ensure absolute security for APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017

PSNews - State President Tran Dai Quang on June 22nd attended and delivered a keynote speech at the 8th plenary session of the National Committee for APEC 2017. Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the APEC 2017 National Committee chaired the event. 

The 8th plenary session witnessed the participation of leaders from 24 involved ministries, agencies and member cities of the National Committee.

Speaking at the opening, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh extended his thanks to President Tran Dai Quang for his due care and timely directions for APEC 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 - the pinnacle of APEC 2017 will take place in more than four months’ time. At the meet, the committee briefed the President on the overall up-to-date preparation for APEC 2017 and listened to State President's guidance on the preparatory work for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 to be held this November in Da Nang.

After hearing a report from Vice Chairman of the National Committee Bui Thanh Son as well as opinions from some other members on APEC 2017 implementation, State President Tran Dai Quang highly appreciated the effort of ministries, agencies, branches and related localities for their APEC 2017 preparations in a synchronous, positive urgent way with responsible manner, which contributed significantly to the successful organization of 3 Ministerial Level Conferences, 4 Senior Officials Meetings, and more than 100 committee-level and working group activities within the framework of APEC.

The President affirmed that, while the world and the region are experiencing complex and unpredictable developments, Vietnam should follow positive trends and quickly grasp opportunities to realize the objectives set by the Party and State in hosting the APEC Year 2017. As this year's host of APEC - the region's leading economic forum, Vietnam has to promote its active role in gathering sound ideas and brainpowers from member economies.

In order to meet the expectation and credibility from APEC members toward this year's host, the State President asked the National Committee to quickly thoroughly prepare for APEC events and activities in a respectful, caring, effective and thrifty manner, while ensuring absolute security and safety. To this end, the involved must hold the highest sense of responsibility in performing their assigned tasks.

President Tran Dai Quang instructed that the activities to be held during the APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017 must bear the imprint of Vietnam and contribute to enhancing Vietnam's prestige while promoting regional economic connectivity and deepening relations among APEC members. It is necessary to take advantage of APEC 2017 to promote Vietnam's strength and potential as well as economic and trade cooperation. The APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017 should target to bring about common interests for the whole region and concrete benefits  to our country, State President said.

In particular, the State President urged the involved parties to accelerate the infrastructure preparation while ensuring quality. The work of dissemination of information about the APEC Year 2017 must be focused on as the event is an opportunity to promote the image of the country and people. Security and safety must also be ensured absolutely before, during and after the APEC Economic Leaders' Week while medical and health service, particularly preventive medicine, must be deployed professionally. It is necessary to encourage the participation and contribution of people and enterprises in the preparation and organization of APEC 2017 including the APEC Economic Leaders' Week, in order to facilitate the country's integration.

To conclude, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed that the National Committee will realize the guidance of the State President on the preparatory work to ensure the momentum and quality of the APEC preparation. The Deputy Prime Minister also released that Vietnam will hold five more major conferences including important Ministerial Conferences, to complete all documents for APEC leaders at the APEC Economic Leaders' Week.

The Deputy PM urged subcommittees and relevant ministries to coordinate closely to well organize these conferences and make great effort to complete the infrastructure preparation in Da Nang city so as to be ready to welcome the delegations this July.

The 9th plenary session of the National Committee for APEC 2017 is scheduled in September.
