A historic institution in Vietnam’s security education system

Established on June 25, 1946 under the name Training School of Public Security, the People’s Security Academy is one of the earliest educational institutions established after Vietnam’s August Revolution and the first training centre of the People’s Public Security force.

Over the past 80 years, the academy has developed into a leading national institution for education and scientific research in the field of public security.

From short-term training courses in its early years, the academy has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution offering undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes. It has trained tens of thousands of officers for Vietnam’s public security forces and also contributed to training personnel for Laos, Cambodia and other agencies.

Major contributions in training and scientific research

The academy has conducted thousands of scientific research projects and compiled more than 2,000 textbooks and training materials, contributing significantly to the development of theoretical foundations in security operations and policy formulation for national security protection.

Currently, the institution has a faculty of more than 300 professors, associate professors, PhDs and distinguished educators. It operates with modern facilities across two major campuses, supported by upgraded digital infrastructure and data systems.

International cooperation has also expanded significantly, enhancing the academy’s regional and global standing.

A legacy of national recognition

During its development, the People’s Security Academy has been visited and guided by President Ho Chi Minh on eight occasions.

The institution has trained many senior leaders of the Party, State and public security forces, including hundreds of generals and numerous professors and associate professors. Many alumni have been recognised as Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces.

In recognition of its outstanding contributions to national security and the development of Vietnam’s public security forces, the academy has received prestigious awards, including the Gold Star Order and Ho Chi Minh Order.

The awarding of the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title for the third time marks a significant milestone, recognising its achievements during the 2015–2025 period.

Today, the People’s Security Academy continues to serve as a key training institution and a major scientific research centre for the public security sector, providing academic and policy foundations for national security, public order and social safety in the new context.
