PSNews – The Then singing practice of Vietnam’s Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups has been recognized by UNESSCO as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity.

“Then” singing practice of Vietnam’s ethnic groups of Tay, Nung, Thai has been named in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Cultural Heritage said on December 13.

More than 90% of the population of Xuan Giang commune in Ha Giang province is Tay ethnic minority people. Local authorities have established Folk Artisans’ Associations to preserve and develop their traditional cultural identities, especially as it relates to folk melodies and musical instruments.

PSNews - The 6th national festival of the art of Then singing and Tinh gourd lute of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups officially kicked off on May 13 in Ha Giang city. 

“Then” singing is an indispensable practice in the cultural and religious life of Tay and Nung ethnic minority communities in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, especially Dinh Hoa region.

Lang Son province has encouraged the establishment of local Then singing clubs to promote the development of this genre of traditional singing – a typical culture of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic people in the northern mountainous region.

PSNews–the 6^th Then singing of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic minority groups will take place from May 12 to 14 with the participation of some 500 artisans from the art teams of 14 different provinces and cities.
