Vietnam, Cambodia strengthen security cooperation

Member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security General To Lam, heading a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, has arrived in Cambodia, starting an official visit to the neighboring country at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sar Sokha.

On January 23, in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, Minister To Lam and his entourage paid a courtesy visit to Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and  Head of the Supreme Advisory Group to the King of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and had talks with a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha.

Hosting Minister To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation, CPP Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed and hailed the visit of Minister To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation to Cambodia, saying that the visit contributes to strengthening the relationship between the Parties, Governments and peoples of the two countries. 

As the Chairman of the ruling party, Samdech Techo Hun Sen affirmed that he will continue promoting the traditional and friendly relations between the two countries in all fields, including security cooperation as an important pillar in the bilateral relations.

On behalf of the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, Minister To Lam sincerely thanked CPP Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen for taking the time to receive the Vietnamese delegation, and congratulate the CPP under the leadership of Chairman Samdech Techo Hun on its great and important achievements in recent times.

Minister To Lam conveyed regards of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his family, and all leaders of the CPP.

Minister To Lam reaffirmed, Vietnam always supports the construction and development of Cambodia and believes that under the reign of the King, the leadership of Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the governance of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia will continue to attain new greater achievements, successfully realizing the Political Platform of the CPP for the period 2023-2028 and the Pentagonal Strategy proposed by the Government of Cambodia.

* At the talks between the delegations of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Sar Sokha warmly welcomed the visit to Cambodia of the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security, stating that the visit provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange key issues and discuss orientations for the traditional friendship and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia with the aim of bringing the relations to a new high level for the sake of the national interests of the two peoples, and contributing to maintaining an environment of peace, stability and mutual development in the region.

The two sides also evaluated the results of implementing the 2023 Cooperation Plan and proposed a number of directions for cooperation between the two ministries in the coming time, and concluded that defense and security cooperation between the two countries will continue to play a crucial role in the bilateral relations, in the context of increasing challenges while the traditional friendship and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia continues to develop, contributing to strengthening the traditional good friendly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia.

During 2023, the two sides regularly exchanged international and regional situations related to national security, social order and safety of each country, coordinated in preventing and fighting plots, methods, tricks and sabotage activities by hostile forces as well as in promptly handling issues arising cases.

Particularly, the two sides closely coordinated in fighting all types of crimes and investigating many major cases while police forces in border provinces of the two countries proactively exchanged information about crimes, and joined effort in ensuring security and order in the border areas, without affecting the friendship, cooperation and relationship between the two countries. 

Regarding orientations for their cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to increase information exchange, team up to prevent and fight all kinds of crime, especially transnational crime, drug trafficking, trafficking in persons, as well as plots and acts by hostile and reactionary forces aiming to sabotage and divide the two countries while coordinating closely to ensure security, safety of senior leaders of one country visiting the other. The two parties also agreed not to let a third party use the territory of one country to sabotage another country.
