Vietnam readies to share court experience with Laos

President Tran Dai Quang affirmed Vietnam's readiness to share experience in personnel training and court cooperation with the People’s Supreme Court of Laos while receiving Chief Justice Khamphanh Sithidampha and his delegation in Hanoi on January 4.

President Quang highlighted the court sector’s important role in building a law-governed state, protecting justice and human rights. He voiced his support for broader cooperation between the two countries’ Supreme People’s Courts asking them to strengthen judicial reform and share experience.

He showed his delight at the two supreme courts’ regular delegation exchanges, experience sharing, and increased cooperation in crime fight and personnel training. He also appreciated reform and development achievements the Lao court system has recorded recently.

He asked the supreme courts of Vietnam and Laos to continue developing their cooperation in order to deliver practical benefits to both court systems, thus contributing to each country’s development as well as the two countries’ traditional cooperation and special friendship.

At the meeting, Quang also congratulated the People’s Supreme Court of Laos on being presented with the Independence Order (first class), a noble order of the State of Vietnam.  Other awards were also bestowed on officials of the Lao court were also other awards.

Chief Justice Khamphanh Sithidampha said both sides shared experience as well as training courses through regular exchange visits.
At the talks with officials of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam earlier the same day, they reviewed cooperation outcomes and worked out cooperation plans for 2018 and the years to come.

The court sectors launched diverse activities in the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 to educate younger generations on the two countries’ special relations, he told his host.

He also thanked the Vietnamese Party and State for presenting noble awards to the People’s Supreme Court of Laos

Meeting with the Lao Chief Judge the same day, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan urged the two courts to step up cooperation as a contribution to the development of their respective countries and the enhancement of bilateral ties.

Chief Justice Khamphanh Sithidampha briefed his host on results of the talks between the two countries’ courts and their plans for future cooperation. At the talks, the two sides glowingly spoke of what they have together achieved in 2017.

The Lao Chief Justice extended his sincere thanks to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, particularly the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, for supporting Laos.

He informed the NA leader about the two courts’ activities during the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year – 2017 and pledged his best efforts to preserve and foster the Vietnam-Laos special ties.

Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Nga suggested increasing experience sharing and delegation exchanges, and cooperation in personnel training and relations between their courts in different areas and at local levels.

The top Vietnamese legislator also offered her greetings to Lao NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou who is due to visit Vietnam for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) in Hanoi this month.
