The eighth session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) is due to open on October 21 and conclude on November 27, deputy head of the NA Office Nguyen Manh Hung said during a press conference in Hanoi on October 18.

The NA will spend 17 days on making laws and the remainder on deciding socio-economic affairs, State budget, supervision and other important issues, including question-and-answer sessions.

Lawmakers will adopt the revised Labour Code, the amended Securities Law, the Library Law, the Law on Military Reserve Force, the amended Law on Self-Defence Forces, the Law on Immigration of Vietnamese citizens, the law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Organisation of the Government and the Law on Local Administration Organisation, and the law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Cadres and Civil Servants and the Law on Public Employees.

They will also approve a resolution on handling with tax debts by insolvent taxpayers, and other resolutions while giving opinions on the law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents, the revised Youth Law, the Law on Public-Private Partnerships, the Law on Dialogue and Reconciliation, the Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Judicial Expertise, the amended Investment Law and revised Enterprise Law.

Legislators are scheduled to scrutinize reports on socio-economic performance and State budget 2019, plan for socio-economic development, State budget estimate and allocation for 2020 for Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Tra Vinh provinces and Irish government’s non-refundable aid for especially poor provinces under the Programme 135, a feasibility report for the first stage of Long Thanh international airport, a comprehensive plan on socio-economic development for ethnic minority and mountainous regions, among others.

They will also consider working reports by the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and those by the Government on the fight against crimes and legal violations, execution of sentences, and corruption during 2019.

The legislature will listen to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee’s report on public feedback collection, decide on the personnel work, and adopt the resolution of the session.

The NA Standing Committee will report the supervision over dealing with voters’ suggestions sent to the seventh session while the Government will report external activities of the State for 2019.

At the press conference, NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc also  responded to questions on issues of concern.
