On July 12, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with leaders of ministries and sectors, major business leaders and international science and technology experts on the sidelines of the ongoing Industry 4.0 Summit and Expo 2018 under the theme “Vision and Development Strategy in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” in Hanoi over July 12-13.

The event, co-hosted by the Vietnamese Government and the Central Economic Commission, covers discussions on the development strategy and application of Industry 4.0.

In the context of the global industrial revolution 4.0 and its impacts on Vietnam, the Prime Minister issued Directive No 16 on strengthening capacity to approach the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

At the meeting, many representatives from the world's leading technology companies applauded the Vietnamese government's efforts to push forward the industrial revolution 4.0.

Investors said they are carrying out big projects on smart city building, electricity supply, environmental protection in Vietnam, have applied the achievements of the Revolution 4.0 such as cloud computing technology, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence (AI).

They suggested that the Government should create a widespread consensus among the society, thus offering “digital chances” for enterprises and people to adapt themselves to Industry 4.0 practices. They also proposed that the government help improve the quality of human resources, especially high-quality personnel in information technology.

According to Albert Antoine, senior expert on artificial intelligence and technology, human resources training is still slow going 4.0 in Vietnam. The country should provide industry 4.0 training at both tertiary and primary education levels so as to create a new generation of human resources who fully grasp industry 4.0. This is an important foundation for the successful application of the fourth industrial revolution in Vietnam.

PM Phuc expressed his hope that participants will give answers to the question of how Vietnam can be successful in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and also clarify some of the Industry 4.0-related concepts.

Vietnam is integrating deeper into the world economy with 15 new generation free trade agreements and it has been strongly affected by the world’s economic fluctuations, including those relating to Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence.

Industry 4.0 creates both opportunities and challenges for each country, business, and individual, and, Phuc said while urging them to raise their awareness of the problems to apply more scientific advances.

The country has formed a strong ecosystem for renovation, which is essential to continue fine-tuning its policies and legal framework thus boosting a faster expansion of Industry 4.0, as well as the greater science and technology revolution, the government leader said.

PM Phuc showed his belief that heart-felt opinions from the delegates will contribute to the success of the event.
