The event saw participation of Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan; representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, ambassadors, delegates, heads of delegations, heads of international organizations in Vietnam; agencies, organizations and branches of Vietnam; Vietnamese friends of India; and Indian nationals living and working in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Parvathaneni Harish, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Vietnam, said on August 15, 1947, India won freedom after an undaunted war against colonial oppression. The day has entered the history of the 20th century as a memorable event and a clear demonstration of the great efforts of thousands of Indian peace-loving people led by Mahatma Gandhi.

Over the past years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has made positive changes and developments, writing on India’s success story in the country's history.

Ambassador Harish also highlighted that 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-India diplomatic relations, the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership, and the 25 years since the India – ASEAN Dialogue Partnership was signed.

During the historic visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vietnam in 2016, the two countries have lifted their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Today, cooperation between the two countries especially in the fields of defense and security has been tightened. The two countries are expanding cooperation in non-traditional security, particularly counterterrorism and cyber security.

As assessed by the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, defense and security cooperation serves as an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries, and is fully shaped by dialogue mechanisms, human resource development cooperation, naval ship visits and defense industry cooperation.

Economic cooperation is also determined by the two countries' leaders as a pillar in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, with the aim of bringing bilateral trade revenue to $ 15 billion by 2020.

In the 2016-2017 period, two-way trade between Vietnam and India exceeded $ 10 billion. Many new or existing infrastructure projects on traditional and renewable energy will further promote India's investment to Vietnam.

Cultural exchanges as well as cooperation on science and technology, human resources development and training between the two countries also see fruitful results.

Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan congratulated the Government and people of India on their brilliant achievements while applauding strong developments of the country over the past years.

The minister expressed his belief that under the sound leadership of President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with great efforts and solidarity of the people, India will continue to grow and achieve great successes, cementing its strong position in the international arena.

Minister Truong Minh Tuan hoped that the long-term, trustworthy and good relationship between Vietnam and India will be tightened and developed in the future.
