At a meeting with Trudeau, the two PMs expressed their satisfaction at the positive development of the Vietnam-Canada comprehensive partnership over the years, and agreed to promote cooperation in various areas, from politics-diplomacy to economy and culture.
The two sides vowed to actively implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to which both countries are members so as to raise two-way trade to more than US$8 billion soon.
Chinh suggested that Canada open its market for Vietnamese seafood and agricultural products, especially fruits, coffee, and cashew nuts. He expected Canadian businesses will increase investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of green economy, digital economy, and climate change response.
The two PMs agreed that Vietnam and Canada should speed up negotiations to recognize each other’s green visas and vaccine passports, contributing to supporting economic recovery in their respective countries.
PM Chinh asked Canada to support Vietnam in reforming and perfecting institutions, technology, green finance, and human resource training in climate change response and innovation.
On multilateral issues of mutual concern, the two sides shared the view of maintaining peace and stability as well as promoting legitimate and legal interests in line with international law for peace and common prosperity. PM Trudeau stressed the need to promote a rules-based world order.
Trudeau highly appreciated the Vietnamese community’s contributions to Canada, affirming the government’s willingness to train Vietnamese students and to promote people-to-people exchanges with Vietnam. He expressed hope to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
While meeting with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted that Zambia has emerged as one of the most developed countries in Africa. He also acknowledged Hichilema’s proposal to boost trade ties between the two countries.
The two leaders agreed to assign their foreign ministries to set up specific channels of exchange and share development experiences.
