SBV Governor, Information Minister grilled at continued Q&A session

Lawmakers on November 17 continued their Q&A session with Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Le Minh Hung on issues relating to taxes, public debt, and monetary policy management.

Lawmakers praised SBV’s performance in recent years, which has helped stabilize the macro-economy, control inflation and boost business and production. But some argued that restructuring and dealing with bad debts has not been effective.

"It is essential to finalize a legal framework to enhance the capability of inspection agencies. We need more oversight and propose a prompt solution to credit organizations when risks are detected," Hung said.

Governor Hung said the State Bank of Vietnam’s monetary policy aims to assure the value of the VND and safety of the monetary system and stabilize credit organizations.

The same day, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan fielded questions on applying technology to administrative reform, particularly e-governance and State management of communications, including controlling harmful information on social networks.

He said online public services have saved a lot of time in performing administrative procedures, but there are still limitations. 

“The government has identified key tasks and has instructed Ministries and sectors to improve the business environment and national competitiveness. E-government  is improving the efficiency of public services from central to grassroots levels," he said.

Regarding the legislature's Q&A session on November 17, voters gave comments on questioning of the SBV Governor and the Minister of Information and Communications.

Lo Van Bien, a resident of Quyet Thang ward, Son La district, offered his view on State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Governor Le Minh Hung’s response to National Assembly deputies’ questions during Q&A session in Hanoi. He said the answers of the bank governor are concentrated and straight to the point and Mr Hung also outlined solutions to boost credit growth and improve the operation of the banking system.

Voter Bui Huy Loat in Kim Lau, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city said, “Following the Q&A session, I am pleased that deputies question cabinet members on ways to use resources. As the Party and State are keen on agriculture, rural areas have developed remarkably. We want the State to invest more in agriculture and agricultural restructuring for more sustainable development.”

Meanwhile, voters in Yen Bai praised Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan addressing the public’s concerns, regarding social media.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, a resident of Van Yen district said, “Social media has a widespread impact on people’s lives, but many of the news feeds make us confused. So we hope that the Ministry of Information and communications will take more effective measures in social media management.”
