This follows the success of the second Proof of Concept Competition (PoC 2), in which 15 enterprises received funding and business support services since September 2017. The objective of PoC 3 is to provide comprehensive support for innovative startups in the field of green and sustainable development.
Startups and young enterprises will gain access to: (1) grant funding of up to $75,000; (2) mentoring and training; (3) business advisory services; and (4) fundraising at all stages of development, from project idea, incubation, commercialization to market development.

Speaking on behalf of the Australian Government – one of the program’s two sponsors – Justin Baguley, Acting Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy said: “Supporting innovation is a key priority of Australia’s partnership with Vietnam, because we know that embracing new technologies can drive economic growth, create jobs and help to solve difficult problems like climate change".
"Australia is proud to be supporting the Vietnam Climate Innovation Centre’s work in building the capacity of small and growing businesses, and I encourage enterprises to take up this opportunity to access VCIC’s support. We are particularly happy to be targeting our support to womenled enterprises through this third Proof of Concept competition”, he added.
This year’s primary target at a rich, yet largely untapped talent pool – Vietnam’s female entrepreneurs – represents a timely approach. Lead Economist for the World Bank in Vietnam Sebastian Eckardt said: “Serious challenges demand fresh ideas and creative thinking to generate change. As such, female entrepreneurs have a key role to play in joining the broader business community and government to deliver the innovative and climate-smart solutions needed to have positive impacts on Vietnam’s environment, economy and society".
To help boost the outreach of PoC 3 among female entrepreneurs, VCIC signs a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam Women’s Union. Two parties will cooperate to encourage women-led enterprises and projects to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s green, climate-oriented national startup ecosystem. In this event, VCIC also signs a memorandum of understanding on the action plan to establish a venture capital fund with Korea Venture Investment Corporation (KVIC).
The objective is to establish a cooperation model to support the development of Vietnamese and Korean SMEs and startups. This includes a number of cooperation activities between VCIC and KVIC, especially coordinating to implement activities which support the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, develop action plans to establish Vietnam-Korea Venture Capital Fund, market research, commercialization, business promotion, technology transfer, development of cooperation projects and building a partner network.
