Viettel's digital products listed among top Asia's innovative products

PSNews - The Vietnam's giant Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) is expected to win big at the Telecom Asia Awards 2019 with five nominations in four categories.

According to the official list of nominees recently released by the Telecom Asia Awards 2019, Nguyen Thanh Nam, Executive Director of Mytel (Viettel's subsidiary in Myanmar) during the period of 2017-2018, and Tran Van Bang, General Director of Telemor (Viettel's subsidiary in Timor-Leste), are the two representatives of Vietnam in the category “Telecom CEO of the Year.”

Under CEO Nam's leadership, Mytel gained a record of 5 million subscribers after 8 months of its operation in Myanmar. Meanwhile, Mr. Bang has been praised for leading Telemor to the No. 1 mobile network in terms of market-share, revenue, network infrastructure and technology in Timor-Leste.

Regarding the category of innovative digital product, the Telecom Asia Awards 2019 organizers said the Viettel's project to develop Hue city into an intelligent communication city is the first Vietnamese product that has reached the final of the contest “Most Innovative Smart Cities Project”.

Another Viettel product, called ViettelPay, is a candidate for the Most Innovative Mobile Payment Service. More than ten months after launching, the application has achieved a total of 3.5 million users.

Finally, the Vietnamese giant’s Keeng Movies, the largest repository of copyrighted contents in Vietnam with more than two million regular viewers, including 300,000 subscribers, has also been nominated for the Most Innovative Video Service.  According to official sources, this platform provides Viettel with almost VND 200 billion/ year.

The winners will be announced on May 20.

The Telecom Asia Awards, held annually from 1997, aims to honor the outstanding technological innovations and contributions to this sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
