ASEAN seeks to strengthen intra-bloc connectivity

Representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered in Vientiane, Laos, on October 20 to discuss the implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025.

Addressing the workshop on ASEAN connectivity, in its seventh edition, Lao Deputy Foreign Minister Thongphane Savanphet highlighted the effective coordination between relevant agencies, local and regional governments, public-private sectors, partner countries and major stakeholders of the master plan, towards realising the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision.

He underscored the need to create more cooperation opportunities in the five strategic areas of sustainable infrastructure, digital innovation, seamless logistics, regulatory excellence and people mobility.

The master plan was approved by ASEAN leaders in early 2016 in an effort to build an ASEAN community of integration and comprehensive and seamless connectivity.

The workshop was held by the Lao Foreign Ministry as Chairman of the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat.
