Hanoi prepares for reviving tourism activities in October

PSNews - Hanoi authorities are devising plans to welcome back domestic tourists as Vietnam has not yet opened its doors to international visitors. Unique and attractive products are being developed and many stimulus programmes will be launched to ensure safety for tourists and those working in the industry.

Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Municipal Department of Tourism, on September 28 said that, businesses and tourists will have to actively comply with safe tourism standards and products.

Currently, the city is finalizing scenarios of economic activity in line with each pandemic situation. In particular, he underscored that tourism companies should closely follow these scenarios.

The Hanoi tourism sector also concentrates on prioritising improving the quality of cultural and heritage destinations, craft and ancient villages to enhance their competitiveness.

The department will finalise and submit to the municipal People’s Committee a plan to organise a travel gift festival, and a plan on agricultural tourism development in line with new-style rural area building in the 2021-2025 period.

Additionally, the city will also promote MICE (Meeting Incentive Conference Event) tourism associated with hosting major events.

The Hanoi Municipal Department of Tourism also asked relevant agencies to form attractive and specialised tourism products and services to create new experiences, meeting the needs and tastes of holidaymakers in the new normal situation.

Given the high risk of possible COVID-19 outbreaks, meeting the pandemic prevention and control requirements and ensuring safety for visitors and the community remain a priority.

This year, the city’s tourism sector has set an overall target of catering to between 13.16 and 19.4 million tourists, including 10.96-15.34 million domestic visitors.

As reported, Hanoi sees sharp drop in tourist arrivals in nine months with only 2.9 million visitors, all from localities inside the country, a fall of 57.5 percent year on year.

The total revenue of the sector also dropped 66.2 percent over the same period last year to 8.17 trillion VND (356.1 million USD).
