Trong’s choosing Laos as the first country to visit since he was re-elected as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam in January has affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s special interest in strengthening ties with Laos, said the newspapers.

On November 25, major newspapers of Laos, including Pasaxon, Vientiane Times, KPL News, Phathet Lao, LaoPhatthana, Vientiane Mai, Setthakit Kankha and Setthakit Sangkhome reported the welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese Party chief and outcomes of his talks with Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachit.

During the talks, the two sides discussed orientations and measures to continue developing the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation in a practical and effective manner.

After that, the two leaders witnessed the signing of seven cooperation agreements, many of them are significant for the fostering of bilateral ties in the coming time.

Earlier, on November 22-24, Laos’ media posted many editorials on the Vietnam-Laos relationship. The Lao Phatthana reviewed the special ties between the two countries through periods, stressing that amidst the changing regional and world situation with complicated developments, Laos and Vietnam should further strengthen their partnership in all fields for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Meanwhile, the Pasaxon, the official organ of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, on November 23 ran an article on enhancing the special solidarity and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Laos.

The article read that Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Laos from November 24-26 is the first trip abroad since the 12th Party Congress, which shows that Vietnam always gives special priority to developing its ties with Laos.

Looking through the history of the sound bilateral ties, the article hailed the traditional relationship and faithful solidarity between the two nations, which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Suphanuvong, and nurtured by generations of the two countries’ Party and State leaders and people.

The ties have become a priceless treasure shared by both nations, it said, noting that the Vietnam-Laos partnership have been expanded in all fields from politics, defense to economy, culture, science and technology.

It concluded that the visit reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent policy of attaching much importance to reinforcing the relationship with Laos as well as its strong and comprehensive support for the national renewal, defense and construction of Laos.
