President Diaz-Canel lauds Cuba-Vietnam exemplary relations

Cuban President Miguel Diaz - Canel Bermudez has hailed the exemplary relations between Cuba and Vietnam that have stood the test of time over the past six decades, and wants to further deepen the ties in the coming time.

Receiving newly accredited Vietnamese ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung in Havana on October 14, President Diaz - Canel expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s marked achievements in national development, as well as its timely, effective prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic recently.

He thanked Vietnam for its solidarity and valuable support for Cuba both bilaterally and multilaterally, and affirmed that Cuba wishes to further strengthen solidarity and cooperation between the Parties, States and peoples of the two countries.

Diaz – Canel suggested both countries should continue efforts to raise bilateral economic, trade and investment ties on a par with their political relations. At the same time, he expressed his appreciation of the mutual support and timely and practical cooperation between the two countries in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, considering this a vivid manifestation of solidarity between Cuba and Vietnam, especially when the two countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

On this occasion, the Cuban President conveyed his best wishes to Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State Nguyen Phu Trong and other high-ranking officials of the Vietnamese Party and State.

Presenting his credentials to the Cuban President, ambassador Le Thanh Tung expressed the Vietnamese people’s gratitude to the Cuban people for their heartfelt support spiritually and materially during the past struggle for national liberation and the current cause of national construction and global integration.

Ambassador Tung voiced Vietnam’s consistent policy of supporting the revolutionary cause of the Cuban people and affirmed Vietnam’s desire to expand the ties of solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between the two countries, which were founded and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro 60 years ago.

The Vietnamese diplomat congratulated Cuba on its initial success in COVID-19 vaccine research and production, and expressed his belief the Cuban people will definitely overcome all difficulties and challenges, successfully update its economic model, and effectively implement its recently introduced socio-economic development strategy.
