Vietnamese President Luong Cuong (R) and Lautaro Carmona Soto, president of the Communist Party of Chile, during their meeting in Santiago de Chile on November 10.

Cuong thanked the people, the Communist Party of Chile, and left-wing, progressive, peace-loving forces of Chile for their strong support and solidarity with the Vietnamese people in their struggle for national independence and unification in the past, as well as for support in national development at present.

He highly valued and expressed confidence that the Communist Party of Chile, as a member of the ruling coalition, would make positive contributions to the left-wing government’s achievements in Chile.

He emphasized that the Communist Party of Chile would help advance proactive foreign policy, expand international relations, and build links with countries and regions around the world, contributing to addressing common challenges and international issues.

Cuong briefed his host on Vietnam’s recent developments, saying the country ranks as the 35th largest economy among the top 40 economies and is one of the 20 fastest-growing economies globally. It is committed to an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and development-focused foreign policy that emphasizes diversification and multilateralism. It actively and positively integrates into world, acting as a reliable friend, partner, and responsible member of the international community.

The President noted that the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam has set the ambitious goals of turning Vietnam into a developing country with a modern industry and high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045.

To achieve these goals, in addition to its own efforts, he said Vietnam requires the support and partnership of international friends, including Chile. Currently, Chile is one of Vietnam’s top export markets in Latin America, and Vietnam is Chile’s largest trading partner in ASEAN.

The Communist Party of Vietnam values and seeks to further develop cooperation with ruling and traditionally allied political parties, including the Communist Party of Chile, he stressed.

In the face of a complex global situation, he said Vietnam remains committed to the path of national independence and progress toward socialism. Achieving this goal requires a range of solutions, and therefore, the two Communist Parties should actively exchange development experiences suited to the needs of each country.

For his part, Carmona Soto affirmed that Vietnam has always been a model for the world, including Chile. He said the Communist Party of Chile has studied Vietnam’s experience in the national liberation struggle, recognizing that the revolutionary cause is for the entire population and that the participation of all members of society is crucial for the development of the country.

Despite facing numerous difficulties and challenges within the ruling coalition, the Communist Party of Chile is working to strengthen its own combat effectiveness, while at the same time learning from Vietnam’s development model, especially solutions that align with Chile’s reality, he said.

According to the Chilean official, regardless of political affiliation, there is broad support for strengthening cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam is a wonderful country, led by the Communist Party, and consistently demonstrates a peaceful and cooperative foreign policy for the benefit of the people of both nations, he said.
