PSNews - Nguyen Thi Tam, aged 101, woke up earlier on May 23 morning to elect deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term. It has been the 15th time she has voted the National Assembly.

On May 23, she woke up earlier and talked with family's members like any other day, but this morning's topic was all about the election of the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.

At 7:30AM, she arrived at the Polling Station of Constituency No 2 in her best "ao dai". Following the preventive COVID-19 regulations, Tam wore a mask, washed her hands with hand-washing liquid, and has her body temperature measured.

At the polling station, she spent much time reviewing the lists of the candidates before casting her ballots although she had read through the bibliographies of the candidates for the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term at home.

Talking to reporters of Public Security Newspaper, Tam said that she was born in France but returned to Vietnam's Hanoi to live when she was small. In 1947, she and her family went to Tuyen Quang to join the national resistance war against the French colonialists.

In 1954, she returned to Hanoi as Vietnamese revolutionary forces took over the capital city. She worked at the Ministry of Culture until her retirement.

She has been among a few voters that have participated in all 15 NA elections since the first one in 1946.

According to Tam, she always feels honored and proud when she exercises her right to vote as a Vietnamese citizen. For her, each election is a chance for one to look back at the development of Hanoi in particular and the homeland in general over the past term.

"The presence of Ms. Tam is a very meaningful encouragement to us. It also shows the people's trust in the Party and State", Ninh added
