Three localities lead the list of daily cases, including Hanoi with 630 new infections, Vinh Phuc with 222 cases, and Phu Tho with 179 cases.

The average number of new cases nationwide over the past seven days stands at 3,444 per day, while the national death rate has been at a daily average of 2.

The Health Ministry confirmed a further 55,018 recoveries on the same day, thereby taking the total number of recovered cases up to over two million.

No casualties were confirmed over the past 24 hours to keep the country’s overall death toll unchanged at 43,055.

As of May 6, the country had injected a total of 215.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, according to the Information Technology Department under the Ministry of Health, by the end of May 6 more than six million local people had their electronic vaccine passports confirmed.

The nation’s electronic vaccine passport uses standards issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EU. The type of passport is currently in use across 62 countries globally and will be used by more nations in the near future.

As of April 7, the country had reached agreements on the mutual recognition of vaccine passports with 19 countries, including Japan, the United States, the UK, Australia, India, Belarus, Cambodia, the Philippines, Palestine, the Maldives, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Turkey, Singapore, Saint Lucia, the Republic of Korea, Iran, and Malaysia.
