It is hard to travel from the center of Nam Tra My district up to the mountainous commune of Tra Van.
There are 3 classes in the communal school, of which Tam is in charge of 15 kindergarten kids, and Van is responsible for a combined class of 15 students in first and second grades.

Kids of the Ca Dong ethnic group are well-behaved and hard-working. They go to school while their parents work on the upland farms.
The only challenge for both teachers and students is that most of the kids cannot speak “Vietnamese” because they speak their ethnic language at home.
“It took us 2 months to teach the kids to sing a very common song about learning and school, but we soon got over it,” said Tam.
The kids love and often stay over with the teachers after class. The two teachers always treat the kids kindly and provide them with simple meals although their lives still face difficulties.

Teachers Tam and Van have been working in Tra Van for over 2 years.
Van and Tam share a small room of nearly 10m2, which is separate from villages. They do not have a television, a computer or the Internet.
In spite of many difficulties, the two teachers still stand firm and work there. They said, they are teachers and their responsibility is to teach children; the children in Tra Van suffer great disadvantages and they want to make up for them.
