Efforts made to put Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant into operation in 2020

PSNews – The Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant, one of the key national thermo-power plants located at the Thai Binh Power Center, will play an important role in ensuring electricity supply for the country’s Northern coastal region.

The Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant project was  listed as one of urgent power projects under the Prime Minister's Decision 2414 / QD-Ttg on December 11, 2013. The plant is built with modern equipment imported from South Korea and Japan.

It has two electricity generators with a total design capacity of 1,200 mW, and is expected to supply 6.7 billion kWh to the national grid when it comes into operation, playing an important role in ensuring national energy security.

So far, 84.2% of the project has been completed. However, the Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant Project is still facing financial difficulties as well as personnel shortages, especially highly qualified workers.

In this circumstance, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) proposed the Government to solve financial issues for the project. Although the proposal was basically agreed by the ministries and branches, no solutions to the problems have been reached. The nuts must be cracked soon to complet the project and put the plan into operation in 2020.

Reportedly, despite various difficulties, PVN tried its best to implement the project.  From September 23, 2019 to 26, the principal investor and entrepreneur conducted a test run of the T3 transformer for 72 hours.

At 9:00 am on October 29, 2019, the General Contractor and experts successfully tried at connecting 933A and 933B circuit breakers to the 220kV national electricity grid to serve an overall test run of the plant.

This self-produced power source is used to test the plant’s systems such as: water treatment system, ventilation and air conditioning system, fire protection system, ICMS control system, auxiliary boiler system and so on.

The abovementioned positive results have come from the high determination and great efforts of the leaders and workers of the PVN. PVN’s leaders and workers are still trying their best to  put the first electricity generator in December 2020 and the second in the first quarter of 2021 as requested by the Prime Minister in the Resolution of the Government's regular meeting of August 2019.
