Minister: Transnational drug rings busted over past six months

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) launched many campaigns to crack down on crimes in the first half of 2018, thus uncovering a number of transnational drug trafficking rings, MPS Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. To Lam said on July 2.

Reporting at the Government’s teleconference with provinces and cities nationwide, Lam said crimes have been curbed in the first six months, noting that 12,400 drug-related cases were investigated and handled.

Police focused on arresting ring leaders to cut off drug rings while also handling hired traffickers, he noted.

According to the minister, over the reviewed period, police probed into more than 54,900 criminal cases, including over 8,800 economic crime cases and 230 corruption cases. More than 12,800 environmental crime cases were also resolved.

Economic and corruption crimes have special relations, and the ministry is utilising synchronous solutions, he noted.

Minister Lam said thanks to the engagement of the whole political system – with the public security forces being the core – political security as well as social order and safety have been maintained.

In the report, he added that the MPS has advised the Party and Government about many fundamental and strategic issues on politics, economy, and diplomacy. These include the Government’s strategy for integration into the world in terms of security and order by 2020 with a vision to 2030, and the Prime Minister’s directive on ensuring security and order for economic and industrial zones as well as foreign-invested businesses.

Drastic actions have also been taken to ensure absolute safety for major political events and dealing with complex security incidents. Meanwhile, enhanced administrative reforms in the State’s management of security and order have helped to facilitate business activities, the minister said.

Lam asked provinces and cities nationwide to have a better grasp of their local security-order situations and increase dialogues with local residents to thoroughly answer any problems that may arise.

The minister asked the localities to pay more attention to the fight against economic, corruption, high-tech, and drug crimes, while keeping in mind that crime combat is the focal and regular task of each ministry, sector, and locality. They should also stay ready to take action in any unforeseen circumstances, he added.
