Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on June 17 handed over 6.2 billion VND (270,210 USD) donated by the oversea Vietnamese (OVs), the Office of the Lao National Assembly, and staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee in support of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund and the fight against the ravaging pandemic.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Son said that although facing various challenges, the overseas Vietnamese community always thinks of and supports their compatriots at home in the fight against COVID-19.

In addition to the aforementioned sum, nearly 30 OV organisations and groups in the US, Canada, France, among others have raised funds to support Vietnamese people in the homeland, especially frontline forces combating the pandemic, the minister said.

By June 16, OVs had offered about 5.3 billion VND to COVID-19 prevention and control efforts and the vaccine fund.

They also have presented medical supplies to health workers and people in COVID-hit localities.
