According to Emmanuel Giraud, who is in charge of the prison, the uprise broke out at one of the prison’s building. Accordingly, 2 prisoners attacked an warden officer, took the key and helped some 60 others to escape their cell. Such prisoners set fire to part of the prison building.

According to Le Point, it is still a question how they could take the keys and open all the cells. The flames, which spread through one floor of the three-storey building, were later put out by fire-fighters.

Due to other press sources, no hostage detainment is reported during the riot and all the officers and members of staff were able to evacuate the building, where 180 prisoners were kept. Police, fire-fighters and ambulances are said to appear at the scene right away.
