Russian Language Week 2017 launched in Hanoi

PSNews -The Russian Language Week 2017, which is taking place at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture from June 5 to 9, attracts the participation of many Vietnamese who teach and learn Russian and Russian citizens working in Vietnam.

According to the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, the annual event is to observe the birthday of Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin and the International Russian Language Day.

Within the framework of the 5-day Russian Language Week in Hanoi, Vietnamese and Russian linguists will join many seminars, workshops on the language and modern Russian language teaching methods.

An exhibition named "Pushkin images through worldwide illustrated books" and a special music night called "Pushkin Party” will also be held during the event.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov highlighted the traditional friendly relationship between Vietnam and Russia during the past 67 years, with a particular emphasis on education and training cooperation.

Ambassador Vnukov also thanked many Vietnamese generations for their love of the Russian language, the country and people.

Meanwhile, Director of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture Natalia Shanfinskaya said that the Russian Language Week, with the first of this kind held in June 2011, has become an important annual activity to promote and popularize Russian language and culture in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, Russian language has always occupied an important position for many years, thanks to the growing cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in many fields.

Every year, the Russian Government grants scholarships to hundreds of Vietnamese students to study in the country.  The figure could mount to 953 scholarships in 2017.

Earlier, on May 24, the Russian Center for Science and Technology organized a ceremony to present awards to 170 Vietnamese students who won prizes in the Russian language, Mathematics, Physics and Informatics Olympiads in 2017. The winners received full scholarships from the Russian Government to study at Russian universities.
