Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao – A staunch communist

On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of late Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao (August 20, 1917-2017), the Ministry of National Defense in collaboration with the Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee held the scientific workshop “Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao - A staunch communist, an excellent politician and an outstanding military expert of the Vietnam People's Army, on August 10.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Secretary of the Nam Dinh Provincial Party Organization Doan Hong Phong co-chaired the seminar.

Representatives of the family of late Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao and other representatives of ministries, departments also attended the scientific workshop.

Speeches at the workshop reaffirmed that, during nearly 70 years of his revolutionary career as a member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Discipline Inspection Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, Deputy Minister of Defense and Minister of Wounded Soldiers and Social Affairs (present Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs), Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao exerted all-out efforts to successfully fulfill assigned tasks and was absolutely loyal to the Party's revolutionary cause.

The successful uprising of the Thanh La campaign, part of the General Uprising and Revolution in August 1945 demonstrated the determination and military talent of Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao at that time as a Secretary of the Nguyen Hue Sectional Party Committee in the Viet Bac military zone.

According to Dr. Duong Minh Hue, a member of the Party History Institute under the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, the Thanh La uprising pervaded the whole country, contributing significantly to the General Uprising and Revolution in August 1945.

"Although our forces had rudimental weapons, Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao still decided to choose Thanh La as the starting point of the uprising. It was a very bold and correct decision," said Dr. Duong Minh Hue.

Participants at the workshop also emphasized that, as the Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao made a  great contribution to  both theory and practice relating to strategic advisory work in an effort to build a strong and elite military.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army affirmed, “With his virtues, competence, firm political stance and dedication, Senior Lieutenant General Song Hao worked effectively with agencies of the General Department of Politics and the Ministry of National Defense to advise the Party and Central Military Party Commission on personnel planning, training and appointments during the resistance war against American invaders.”
