Vice President presents gifts to disadvantaged students

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, who is head of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC), presented 100 scholarships to students from poor families in Nam Dan district, central Nghe An province, on November 6.

The Vice President also handed over gifts to 10 exemplary teachers and five sets of computer to five schools in the district. 

In addition, she handed VND50 million (US$2,200) to the NFVC’s office in Nam Dan to assist with the implementation of the action programme for children and social security. 
Statistic figures show Nghe An province has more than 22,000 children with special background and around 109,000 children living in poor families. 
On the same day, Vice President Thinh visited and presented gifts to 20 families and 10 teachers who were affected by flooding in Cam Due commune, Cam Xuyen district, central Ha Tinh province. 
She also brought 600 gifts and 200 scholarships to students in Huong Khe district. 
The Vice President offered sympathy over the difficulties and losses that local residents suffered due to the flooding. 
She reminded the local administration to focus all resources on overcoming flood consequences and helping teachers and students to go back to school. 
Stabilising price of necessities, sanitation, disease prevention, security and order are other tasks that the Vice President told Ha Tinh authorities to do. 
Huong Khe district is one of the hardest hit localities in Ha Tinh by the recent flooding, with total damage estimated at VND50 billion (US$2.3 million), according to Le Ngoc Huan, Chairman of the district People’s Committee.
