Vietnam considering accepting vaccine passport

PSNews - The Prime Minister recently tasked the Ministry of Health to coordinate with relevant agencies to consider allowing international visitors with vaccine passports to certain tourist destinations.

Vice Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen recently signed a decision on health quarantine and management of foreigners entering Vietnam. Particularly, the quarantine time is reduced to 7 days for those who prove to have been fully vaccinated.

But the new regulation will be applied to all foreign people entering Vietnam through international border gates in Quang Ninh on trial from July 1 to 31.

The senior health official said that the 7-day quarantine process is applied to foreign visitors who have been fully vaccinated or completely treated and recovered, and tested negative for SARS-CoV-2.

After being quarantined at concentrated facilities, they must self-isolate at their residences for another 7 days. Foreigners whose visit to Vietnam is less than 14 days are not eligible to the regulation.

The MoH clearly stipulates that foreign people entering the country must have a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 issued by the competent authority in the host country (the vaccine must be authorized by WHO or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States, the European Medicines Agency or Vietnam’s health authority).

At a meeting with the MoH’s delegation, led by Vice Minister Do Xuan Tuyen, on June 26, the Provincial People’s Committee of Kien Giang proposed a plan called “closed quarantine tourism”, in which the island city of Phu Quoc will be able to welcome fully vaccinated tourists to.

Furthermore, Kien Giang officials also proposed to conduct a mass vaccination of all residents on the island.

The proposal will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.
