Vietnamese fishermen save Filipino sailor

He was then returned to Liberia’s Vega Kappa ship on the Thailand - Hong Kong voyage, according to the Ninh Thuan Provincial Border Guard.

Vega Kappa ship contacted the Phan Thiet coastal information center on the early morning of May 16 and informed that one of their sailors, Torre, was missing after falling into the sea. The ship also provided the coordinates and location of the incident.

The Phan Thiet coastal information center reported the case to the Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 3 and issued an emergency notice, asking ships and fishing vessels operating near the location to rescue the missing Filipino sailor.

At 7 am on the same day, the victim was found by Vietnamese fishermen aboard NT NT-90714 TS fishing boat, owned by Nguyen Van Ninh, resident of My Hiep village, Thanh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan.

The Vietnamese fishermen picked the victim and gave him first aid. They also reported their finding on the relevant Vietnamese agencies asked them to come and deal with the situation.

At the handover of the victim, Captain Antonio of Vega Kappa said he thought he could never see the young sailor again and expressed his deep gratitude to the Vietnamese fishermen and local authorities for their efforts in rescuing Torre.
