Exhibition of Cuban poster artist opens in Vietnam

PSNews-The exhibition will run from May 19 to June 12 at Packexim Building, An Duong Vuong, Tay Ho (Hanoi).

The exhibition is named “A Present Retrospective”, displaying 36 artworks of various sizes and colors, recreating the image of the guerrilla revolution of the Vietnamese people, facing numerous difficulties and dangers.

The paintings are works by the late Cuban painter René Mederos (1933-1996). He was assigned by the Cuban Government to go to Vietnam to adapt the Vietnam war into paintings.

René Mederos lived and worked with the Vietnamese armed forces and people along the Ho Chi Minh Trail from 1969 to 1972. The first exhibition of his artworks displayed 18 printed versions of his paintings and posters, created during his two visits to Vietnam.

Paitings by 5 Vietnamese contemporary artists are also on display at the exhibition.

Mederos's works not only praised the Vietnamese resistance war but also featured the solidarity of the peoples of Cuba and Vietnam. Over the past many years, Mederos’s war paintings and posters have been displayed by anti-war organizations at various art museums around the world. The exhibitions in part promote solidarity and cooperation, peaceful development among nations.
