After the successful events of the past few months focused on music, fashion, literature, education, history and art, the Vietnamese audience will be offered a glimpse on the renowned Italian film industry with the 1st Italian Film Festival.

Indeed, Italy has been greatly contributing to the development of contemporary cinema since 1896, thus becoming one of the leading superpowers in the field and having many actors, directors and skilled technicians awarded on the occasion of many prestigious festivals all around the world.

Within the frameworks provided by the strategic partnership and the bilateral cultural agreements our multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam encompasses also the cinema sector. Hence, over the past few years, many relevant initiatives, meetings, round-tables or promotional events have been organized and always aiming at bringing more Italian movie culture to Vietnam as it happened in 2015 when “Movie move” initiative was first brought to Vietnam or in 2016 when Italy participated as country guest of honor in the Hanoi International Film Festival.

This year, to celebrate the achievements of our 45 years of diplomatic relations, the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam will introduce to the Vietnamese public 3 recent films directed by Maestro Paolo Genovese: “Perfect strangers”, “The place”, and “A perfect family”.

The two comedies and one drama will entertainingly draw the audiences' attention to some of the most dramatic developments of our society, focusing on the key values of family and friendship as well as on major human relations’ dynamics seen through the lenses of everyone’s personal expectations.

The Embassy of Italy in Vietnam also informed that Maestro Genovese will be an extraordinary guest on this occasion for the opening of his meaningful retrospective. He will chair a round-table gathering some young Vietnamese film directors, sharing his knowledge and experience, and he will also attend the first screening of the Italian Film Festival on September 20.

In parallel with the Italian Film Festival, the General Director for Economic and Cultural Promotion of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Vincenzo De Luca, will pay an official visit to Vietnam.

During his mission here, he will focus not only on the strengthening the cultural
cooperation between our two countries (he will also sign the bilateral Executive
Program on Cultural Cooperation 2018-2021) but also on the promotion of top-quality Italian audiovisual and cultural offer in Vietnam.
