Kites flying high in the sky in central Vietnam

The 2022 Hue Kite Festival is currently getting underway in the former imperial city of Hue (central Vietnam) to honour the traditional craft of kite making which has existed in the locality for centuries.

The event brings together top kite makers from across the country for activities which are due to take place until April 23.

More than 80 traditional kites are being showcased at Tu Tuong Park, with each one featuring different sizes, types, and colours.

Some of the kites on show resemble dragons, phoenixes, peacocks, butterflies, swallows, crows, hawks, roosters, and goldfish.

At Phu Van Lau and Ngo Mon Square in the afternoons between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., kite clubs will fly the kites in an activity called "Vietnamese wings".

The festival is set to include several kite flying shows, an exhibition of beautiful kites, along with workshops on kite making and decoration.
