Many Swedish businesses plan to increase investment in Vietnam

A significant number of Swedish enterprises are set to expand their operations in Vietnam, reflecting a deep-seated confidence in the country’s long-term economic prospects.

According to the Business Climate Survey 2026 released on June 11, 50% of Swedish companies surveyed plan to increase their investments in the coming year.

A Foundation of High Growth This surge in investment interest is backed by Vietnam’s robust economic performance. In 2025, the country’s GDP growth reached 8.02%, outperforming earlier projections and solidifying its status as one of the world's fastest-growing economies. This follows a strong 7.09% growth rate in 2024. Consequently, business sentiment remains high, with 61% of Swedish firms expecting their industry turnover to increase in 2026.

Strategic Long-Term Commitment Ambassador of Sweden to Vietnam, Johan Ndisi, emphasized that Swedish companies bring more than just capital; they provide expertise in sustainable solutions and innovation. Currently, 81% of these firms report that "Brand Sweden"—synonymous with quality and sustainability—actively supports their business success in the local market.

Swedish investment is particularly focused on sectors aligned with Vietnam’s development priorities, including healthcare, infrastructure, and the green and digital transformation. Marcus Persson, Trade Commissioner of Sweden to Vietnam, noted that these companies are taking a "long-term, steady approach" to building locally anchored operations.

Improving Climate Amidst Challenges The perceived business environment has seen a notable improvement, with 67% of companies describing the climate as "good" or "very good" in 2026, up from 46% the previous year. Investors praised Vietnam’s reliable distribution networks, safety, and strong supplier base.

However, to unlock further investment, businesses have called for continued reforms. The survey identified customs procedures, licensing processes, and regulatory complexity as primary hurdles that require administrative simplification.

Driving a Sustainable Future As Vietnam moves toward its net-zero goal by 2050, Swedish firms are positioning themselves as key partners in the renewable energy and sustainable industrial sectors. With 59% of companies noting that environmental factors now influence customer purchasing decisions, the green transition is becoming a major driver for future Swedish-Vietnamese economic cooperation.
