Nguyen Dynasty's Kien Trung Palace restored

PSNews - The Hue Relics Preservation Center on February 16 held a groundbreaking ceremony of Nguyen Dynasty's Kien Trung Palace in the Hue Imperial Citadel (Dai Noi).

As report, the restoration project of Kien Trung Palace is part of the province’s efforts to give visitors a glimpse at how the former kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) lived, and to lure more tourists to the Imperial City of Hue.

The Kien Trung Palace was built in 1921, covering an area of 3.860 sqm. It was served as the working and living place of Khai Dinh and Bao Dai, the last kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).

The palace is a charateristic building of Indochina architectural style combined with an integrated European-Asian style.

However, the Kien Trung Palace was completely destroyed by the war in 1947. The restoration of Kien Trung Palace costs VND123 billion (US$5.5 million) and is expected to complete in 2022 including technical infrastructure system and surrounding landscape, contributing to preserving cultural and historical value of this relic site.

The building also witnessed the historical moment on August 29, 1945 when King Bao Dai, the last King of Vietnam’s Nguyen Dynasty, abdicated and handed over power to the provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, marking the ending of feudal dynasties in Vietnam’s history.
