President offers condolences on Thai King's death

President Tran Dai Quang led a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam’s State, National Assembly and Government to the Thai Embassy in Hanoi on October 17 to pay respect to late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

On behalf of the Vietnamese State and people, he offered his deep condolences to the Queen, Royal Family, leaders and people of Thailand, voicing the belief that they will soon overcome this heavy loss to continue developing the country.

Under the 70-year reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on October 13 at the age of 88, Thailand has grown strongly and its people have enjoyed prosperity and happiness, President Quang said. 

He added that the monarch’s death leaves a great sorrow to the Queen, Royal Family and people of Thailand, as well as the ASEAN Community as a whole. 

Writing in the condolence book, the State leader stressed that Vietnam always treasures the King’s sentiment towards its people, as well as his precious contributions to the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

Also on October 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and representatives of many Vietnamese ministries and agencies came to the Thai Embassy to pay homage to the late King.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, born in 1927, came to the throne in 1950 and is the world’s longest-reigning monarch at present. Considered a symbol of national unity, he is beloved by the Thai people thanks to more than 2,000 development projects that have given a facelift to the life of millions of poor farmers in the country.
