In Q1 of 2021, public security agencies and local police departments nationwide strictly followed the directions of the MPS and the Steering Committee for Pandemic Prevention and Control on strengthening immigration control to prevent crimes as well as violations against Covid-19 prevention regulations.

Thousands of police officers and soldiers were deployed to more than 1,600 anti-pandemic checkpoints along the borderline of the country. In Q1, police forces successfully investigated 1,392 cases and arrested 7,964 people involved in criminal cases and law violations..

Particularly, the police forces detected cases of illegally transporting 305 foreigners into Vietnam. Of the illegal immigration cases, the police prosecuted 27 cases with 78 persons involved.

The police forces of the provinces and cities also paid attention to fighting COVID-19-related medical supplies smuggling, production, transportation, and trading. As a result, they seized over 11 tons of poor-quality facemasks and medical gloves.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son requested all public security agencies and units to actively take preventive measures against the disease while promptly investigating and strictly handling cases of illegal entry into Vietnam.

At the same time, the police forces should coordinate with functional agencies to further popularize information related to the COVID-19 pandemic to the people in order to improve their awareness of disease prevention. They should also mobilize them to promptly report cases of illegal entry to the authorities, contributing to preventing the spread of the pandemic in the community.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son also asked the police forces to coordinate with local authorities and relevant units to seriously manage the quarantine zones and strictly control immigration along the borderline.

He also praised the Health Department under the MPS as well as nurses, doctors, and medical workers at public security hospitals for their effective deployment of the vaccination programs for public security officers and soldiers from 23 police units and local departments working on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic.

The public security health sector should continue to implement the vaccination program and take drastic measures to prevent the disease in the Public Security Forces in the coming time, the Deputy Minister underscored.
