Public Security Forces take drastic measures to fight COVID-19

The Ministry of Public Security held an online meeting on July 25 to assess the pandemic situation and propose specific measures to effectively fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in South Central and Southern localities.

The virtual event was based in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City connecting with the police departments of 25 provinces and cities in the Central Highlands and the Southern region.

The meeting was chaired by Major General Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Commander of the Interim Front Command of the Ministry of Public Security in Ho Chi Minh City. The event also saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam thanked police officers and soldiers for their great effort to team up with local authorities and people of localities across the country, especially Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces, in the fight against COVID-19, although they are facing various difficulties and hardships.

Deputy Prime Dam asked the Public Security Forces to strictly implement Directive No. 16 of the Prime Minister as well as to mobilize forces in coordination with the health sector to apply technological solutions in tracing COVID-19 patients and suspects.

The Deputy Prime Minister also asked the police forces to facilitate the transportation of essential goods and ensure traffic order in localities while supporting local authorities to ensure security and order at local narcotic detoxification centers and maintaining information safety in cyber space, contributing to building the people's trust in the anti-pandemic strategies of the Party and State.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son requested the Public Security Forces to continue upholding their role as a frontline force in the fight against the COVID-19. 

He noted that relevant public security agencies should provide more funds and medical supplies as well as send more reinforcements to localities in support of their fight against the disease. They should also pay attention to ensuring security, order, and safety at detention facilities, he added.

To conclude the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung asked all public security agencies and units to follow the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son and advise local Party committees and authorities to strictly and effectively implement them.

* On the same day, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son chaired an online meeting with the Hanoi Municipal Police Department and relevant under-ministerial agencies on issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control in the capital.

At the meeting, leaders of the Hanoi police and the Hanoi Police Hospital briefed the Deputy Minister on their participation in prevention and control of the pandemic of the city as well as proposed approaches to further fight the disease in the coming time.

Deputy Minister Son recognized the efforts and contributions of the Hanoi police in preventing and controlling the pandemic over the past time. 

He requested them to maintain traffic order and safety in the city while grasping the pandemic developments to advise the Hanoi Steering Committee for the COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control on specific preventive measures. 

He also asked local on-duty police officers and soldiers to have decent manners and behavior toward people at the anti-pandemic checkpoints. Leaders of the local police units should also enhance pandemic prevention and control in their units while taking preventive measures against the spread of the pandemic into detention centers.
