Royal Canadian Navy’s ship visits Da Nang city

PSNews - The HMCS Calgary ship of Royal Canadian Navy on September 26 docked at Tien Sa Port, starting its friendly visit to Da Nang City.

This is one of the significant activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Vietnam, contributing to enhancing the connection between the two navies.

At Tien Sa Port, the Royal Canadian Navy delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Da Nang Municipal People's Committee, the High Command of Naval Region 3, the Da Nang Municipal Military Command, and the City’s Department of Foreign Relations. The event also saw the presence of Mr. Robert Bissett, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of Canada in Vietnam.

During their visit from September 26 to 30, the officers and sailors of the HMCS Calgary will visit local children with Agent Orange/dioxin (AO) and children with disabilities; join cultural and sport exchange activities with the High Command of Naval Region 3 and other units. The delegation will also carry a joint exercise at sea with units under the High Command of Naval Region 3.

The HMCS Calgary is a Halifax-class frigate that has just completed a modernization program and upgraded its combat systems. The ship is over 134 meters long, 16.5 meters wide and equipped with many modern weapons such as anti-submarine torpedoes, rocket, helicopter . The ship carries 230 crew members.

The HMCS Calgary recently participated in the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise, RIMPAC (the Rim of the Pacific Exercise, which is held biennially in Hawaii). The ship has visited several ports in the Asia-Pacific region before arriving at Tien Sa Port, Vietnam.
