The Ministry of Public Security organized a nationwide online briefing on traffic order and safety for the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, on the afternoon of February 15, in Hanoi.

The conference is held online connecting delegates from the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security and local traffic units.

Implementing Plan No. 634 issued on December 29, 2023 by the Ministry of Public Security on ensuring traffic safety and social order during the 2024 New Year and Lunar New Year of the Dragon as well as a dispatch sent to all public security agencies and units by the Ministry of Public Security on maintaining security and order for people to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, 100% of the nationwide traffic police force had been mobilized for duty during the holidays Tet to ensure traffic order and safety, creating most favorable conditions for people to travel during the 2024 New Year, Lunar New Year of the Dragon and 2024 Spring holiday.

Meanwhile, police units nationwide also mobilized their forces to support traffic police units in patrolling and set up checkpoints on key and complex traffic routes to prevent and handle traffic violations that might cause traffic accidents.

According to official statistics, during the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday, there were 541 traffic accidents, killing 214 people and injuring 504 others while the traffic police force handled more than 71,000 traffic violations, including more than 29,000 cases of drink-driving, more than 16,700 speeding cases and 114 cases of drug-driving.

To continue implementing the plan to ensure traffic order and safety during the 2024 Spring festive season, the traffic police force focuses on preventing and addressing traffic congestions on roads and at festive places.

The traffic police force takes various approaches to prevent and control traffic accidents and traffic jams by mobilizing drivers to follow the traffic law and the traffic safety regulations as well as sending more traffic officers to key routes to guide traffic flows.
